Hanley Family – The Girls are Growing up!

It was an unexpectedly sunny day for this photoshoot along the South Side trail. But even with the sun a tad on the harsh side, we managed to get some great looks!

Our name. Our faith.

I’ve been wanting to do a promo video for our business for a while. Actually, this isn’t the video I had in mind originally. I wanted to create a video of us discussing our photography, showing us with our clients on a photo shoot, and maybe pan or zoom into some shots we’ve taken.

That video will be for another time…

The idea for this specific promo came up when I was driving home from Army duty on Good Friday and listening to a sermon on the radio. Heather and I have been believers in Christ for a few years now, but only recently I’ve felt a fervent desire to really share my faith more openly. After talking with my pastor, Rut Etheridge, I became even more convicted that I should use our photography business to that end.

We didn’t get the video out in time by Easter, but that’s okay. We should rejoyce in our faith not once a year, but daily.

Our goal with our photography business is not to convert anyone or get into a theological debate with other photographers or with the families who hire us. Our goal with our business is to create beautiful photography. Period. But we recognize that this business has been a blessing from God, so we found it only appropriate to honor Him with our business name and a quick promo video.

We hope you enjoy!

P.S. For those photo nerds (like me) who are curious, the main interview and the footage of me with Heather and our son, Phoenix, was all shot with the Nikon D800. The other B-roll footage was shot a couple of months ago with the Nikon D300s.

Little rain jacket and red hat in the Strip District

We had a fantastic time in the Strip District doing these family photos. We love it when families bring along a splash of color and a few cute props. And hey, balloons never hurt!

Love the intense look in her eye!

Daddy getting the job done even with his hands full.

Oooh! Reach for it! Such drama in this tiny little moment. Almost like she’s sailing away in her wagon and needs the balloons to sail to safety.

Thanks for coming so well-prepared and with such fun energy for this photo shoot. We hope you love them!

(All photos were taken with the Nikon D800)

Josie & Pavel Get Married

We were really thrilled in being able to photograph Josie & Pavel’s wedding! We had a really fun time on their engagement photo shoot with balloons. And the theme fit again as Josie and her mom decorated her wedding with hand-made balloon flowers. Plus they did a killer job with bunches and bunches of hand-crafted paper flowers too. They were a great touch!

These bouquet ballon flowers were sweet! Josie, you and your mom did an awesome job with all the details! And I loved being able to incorporate these in some of our shots together!

I love how it was so easy for Josie and Pavel to laugh together and enjoy each other on a day that’s usually so stressful for a bride and groom.

So every bride and groom has faced it when going out to do their photos: Hecklers. They’re always whistling or shouting or honking their horn while driving by. This time, while stopping for some ice cream, some big guy behind me started heckling Josie and Pavel for looking so serious. But it got them both busting out laughing, so I wasn’t going to stop him.

This look says, “I should have ordered vanilla.”

Ice cream was definitely the right touch because this was such a hot day in Pittsburgh!

Pavel actually sent out a choreographed dance video of Staying Alive to his friends so they’d do it together at the wedding! That’s dedication.

What a great little moment. I love catching glimpses like this with the camera.

Do the train!

Thank you so much guys for being so fun and willing to play around with our silly photo ideas on your wedding day!

Creek Splashing Celebration

Getting those boots ready to splash in the water.

It’s rare that we get to celebrate a child’s birthday together with them and do photos of them on their actual birthday. During this photo shoot, our little niece, Mira, turned two. It’s a crazy thing watching a child grow in their early years, from developing the smallest laugh, to words, standing, walking… now Mira is on a full-fledged run everywhere she goes. I think my sister, Marta, picked the perfect location to do some family photos together. She brought us all together to this little creek that made it feel like a true moment together with family.

Mica just wanted a hug from his little sis. Hug me, Mira. Hug me.

Spring time is a great time for photos, not just because of the weather, but the sun stays out late and has a wonderful warm glow.

You know this was going to happen… Mira fell face-deep into the water.

Pull up them pants, boy!

Even though this creek was right by a park where kids were playing baseball, I felt like we could really photograph a tender and private family moment together.

Boots off!

Mira’s smile reminds me of a little tiny and adorable monster grin. Those rounded little teeth make her whole smile so adorable! Every time I’m around this little girl, all I want is to see her smile like this.

Thanks Marta & Mike for having me photograph your family! Even as busy as we have been with photographs lately, it’s always important to remember to spend whatever time we can together! Love you all!
